A
bit more information about this picture I first came across this
picture in a feature in the Daily Mail on Line. It was captioned:
"Commemoration: A group of men march up Market Hill, St Ives, Cambridgeshire,
in this picture captioned Battle of Britain Parade, from 1960"
I am not sure if the USAF ever took part in Battle of Britian parades,
but it is possible that it might have done. The US airforce did some
times participate in RAF Wyton's open days. However, think that it is
more likely that they were taking part in the Mayor of St Ives parade.
I had been searching for a picture of the Renezvous Coffee Bar as it
was in the 1960s for quite a while, when quite by chance I came across
this picture of American airmen from RAF Alconbury marching past The
Rendezvous. It makes for an interesting picture on two counts because
it shows the long gone Rendezvous Coffee Bar as it was in 1960, and
American airmen parading in St Ives this is something that I was completely
unaware of.
