The Wytonsite: an Introduction

A very warm welcome to you as a visitor to the Wytonsite. The Wytonsite is a small personal snapshot of RAF Wyton and St Ives, and of how it was to live and grow up there 1960s. Many years have passed since that long ago time, and so much has changed since then. RAF Wyton was established in 1916 as an RFC flying training establishment. It is still an RAF station but since March 2013 it is not any longer an active operational military flying base. In addition to the pages directly dedicated to RAF Wyton and St Ives the site aslo features examples of contemporary newspaper headlines and magazines from that era which I hope you will find interesting. Although newspapers and magazines are still with us, media emphasis has radically changed since the 1960s. Radio and TV gradually came to be the primary source of information and entertainment, and that in turn is being superseded by digital technology. The internet, social media, and smart phones. Who would ever imagined it?

I still maintain contact with a few friends and aquaintences from from back then, but most are now no more than distant happy memories. Inevitably we all follow the path that leads to our own individual destinies. That's how life evolves.

The first two web pages set the scene of how the sixties were were percieved by the younger generation, followed by sections on life as it was at RAF Wyton and St Ives back then. Most of this content reflects my own personal memories, but there are contributions from other people, mainly from some of those who served at RAF Wyton during this period.

If you have any comments relating to any of the contents of this site, of have any photographs, or memories you would like to see added or shared do please do get in touch. Click on the "External links" button to access the point of contact. I hope you enjoy your visit.
