The
top row shows some of the magazines that your mother might have read.
Woman, Woman's Own, Woman's Realm, and Woman's Weekly were well established
and widely read publications. Family Circle, and Living were the new
kids on the block more concerned with lifestyle than the traditional
values of home craft and domestic matters favoured by the older more
established magazines. In many respects they continued to reflect, and
advocate the ideals and values of the 1940's and 1950's

Below
are three of the many magazines that were targeted at young women in
their late teens and early twenties. Honey, and 19. Valentine and Mirabelle,
were fanzines featuring love stories and pop idol
'pretty boy' pictures. 'Jackie' was aimed at
the younger teenaged girl. It was first published on 11th January 1964
and was very successful for many years it finally closed on 3 July 1993
after a total of 1534 issues. Honey, and 19 are still published and
are targeted at the same market sector as they were in the 1960's
